Pulsara Version 31 - Facility Updates

Released 7 December 2022

Incident Management

In November, we officially released Incident Management! This exciting new addition to Pulsara allows you to use the same platform you use every day for patient communication and logistics to communicate during a stress event.

As we continue to expand and enhance Pulsara’s incident capabilities, Incident Management is already being used in drills and large-scale exercises in Texas and Colorado, with excellent results. Customers have reported smoother experiences with triaging patients, coordinating transport, and transferring patient information to receiving facilities.

Here’s how Brent Fox, NREMT-P, the Logistics Chief and Emergency Preparedness Specialist for University Medical Center Emergency Medical Services in Lubbock, described his team’s experience:

“Pulsara allowed everyone on scene to have full visibility from any location once they joined the incident. Having this visibility on scene allowed us to ensure the correct patients were transported at the correct time. When the last patient left the scene, we were able to have real-time status and 100 percent accountability for all patients that were transported.”

To learn more about how Pulsara is currently being used to prepare for incidents, check out our recent press release. For more information on specific functionality available with Incident Management, visit https://www.pulsara.com/incident.

Getting started

  • EMS: EMS organizations with a state or regional Pulsara MED OPS package will be able to create and manage an Incident, and any EMS organization in the state or region can join the Incident to participate and provide mutual aid. Contact us to learn more.
  • Hospital: Hospitals and other healthcare organizations will see patients that are being transported to their facility during an incident and receive advance notification of incoming patients. Hospitals can also view or update patient condition via color-coded triage tags (green, yellow, red, and black) in the HQ patient list.

Enhanced Scanning on iOS and Android

Scanning is a great way to quickly add or locate information in Pulsara. Did you know that you can scan a patient’s driver’s license to instantly add their name, age, and date of birth? And now, you can scan a triage tag or armband barcode in order to start a new patient channel, or locate an existing one.

As scanning becomes a more integral part of Pulsara, we are continuing to improve and enhance our platform’s scanning capabilities to give you the best and most reliable experience possible.

What’s changing

  • Pulsara customers on newer iOS and Android devices may notice a faster, smoother scanning experience

How you could use it

  • Scan a patient’s driver’s license to instantly add their name, DOB, and age into their Pulsara channel
  • Scan the barcode of an armband, triage tag, or other ID to start a new channel for a patient, or view their existing channel if one has already been created

Customer Success Story

Recently, a patient walked into a freestanding ED. As they checked in, staff fitted them with an armband used to identify patients across the state. By scanning the barcode on the armband, staff created a new Pulsara channel for the patient.

After taking a few x-rays and loading them into Pulsara, ED staff determined that the patient would need to be transported to a nearby facility. Feeling well enough to drive themselves and eager to avoid the cost of an ambulance transport, the patient left the freestanding ED in a private vehicle and showed up at a nearby hospital. Hospital staff noticed the patient’s wristband and used Pulsara to scan it. Immediately, the patient’s Pulsara channel popped up with the x-rays and all the information added by the freestanding ED. Doctors and nurses were able to view the scans and seamlessly continue the patient’s treatment through definitive care.

Updated Visual and Sensory Feedback Lets You Know that an Action was Successful
When you take actions in Pulsara, such as updating ETA or uploading an ECG, you’ve historically seen a light green popup banner letting you know that your action was successful. We’ve updated our visuals and added sensory feedback, so now, you’ll see a green checkmark on the screen, and feel a slight buzz from your device. Those on iOS devices may have noticed this change in recent weeks, and now it’s here for Android, too!

Driver’s License Scanning for Existing Patients
Did you know that Pulsara allows you to add a patient's name, age, date of birth, and gender to a patient channel, simply by scanning their driver’s license? To make it easier to add information by scanning a driver’s license, the DL Scan button now appears on both the New Patient and Active Patient screens. Information scanned from a driver’s license will appear in all caps for quick visual confirmation that the information came from a driver’s license.
