Parent Incidents

Parent incidents allow for the ability to nest related incidents under a parent incident. The nested incidents are called “Missions”.

Parent incidents are useful when events have multiple missions, such as

  • Disaster management for an event like a hurricane, including missions for: evacuation, rehoming, 911 augmentation, special needs, etc.
  • A very large MCI spanning a large physical area. For example, a large bridge collapse with missions for: the North side of the bridge, the South side of the bridge, and under the bridge.

Parent incidents allow for one view of all Missions, their locations, and patient counts by: Total across all Missions, per Mission, and per Destination and Participating Entities.

Creating a Parent Incident

Note: Parent incidents can only be created in Pulsara Web by an EMS user.

  • Navigate to Incidents and select + Create Incident

  • Set “Is this a Parent Incident” to YES.
  • Fill out the remaining required fields and select save

Note: The status of “Is this a test incident” for a Parent Incident will determine the status of all Missions created or associated with the Parent. Incident owners will not be able to associate incidents of a different test status to a Parent. The incident test status can not be changed on a Parent or Mission after it has been created.

  • View the parent incident

The Missions tab allows for a view of all Missions associated with the Parent Incident, the ability to create additional Missions, and a map of all of the existing Missions tied to the parent incident.

Note: Only the Parent Incident Owner can create new Missions and add existing Missions to a Parent Incident. If a Mission was created by an entity that is not the Parent Incident Owner and the Mission needs to be added to the Parent Incident, the Mission incident ownership must first be transferred to the Parent Incident Owner. For information on how to transfer ownership, review Change Incident Owner.

The entities tab allows for adding Entites to the Parent Incident.

Note: Parent Incidents are not visible for EMS to Join. Entities must be added to Parent Incidents.

Entities added to a Parent Incident will be able to view all Missions, their locations, and patient counts by: Total across all Missions, per Mission, and per Destination and Participating Entities. They will not be able to open an existing Mission that they have not joined or been added to.

To transfer ownership of a Parent Incident to an entity that has been added, select Transfer Ownership.

Note: You will be unable to edit this incident if you transfer ownership.

The Overview Tab allows for Stopping the Incident, Editing Incident Details, Changing the Incident location, Exporting Patients, viewing the Incident Summary and Command View.

Note: Only the Parent owner can Edit, Stop, Change Location, and Export Patients.

Note: Stopping a Parent Incident only stops the Parent and not the associated Missions.

The Incident Summary and Command View allow for an overview by Destination or per Mission.

Note: Patients can not be added directly to a Parent Incident
