Device Permissions and Data Access for Pulsara Mobile
Pulsara is designed to improve communication and coordination among care teams while maintaining the highest standards of privacy and security. To enable secure, real-time communication, the Pulsara MOBILE application requests certain permissions from your device.
This article explains the permissions Pulsara requests, why they are recommended, and what information the app can access.
Permissions Pulsara Requests
When you first launch the Pulsara MOBILE application, you will be prompted to grant permission for specific device features.
Camera
Enables secure video calls and the use of the in-app camera to capture images. The camera can only be accessed while the Pulsara app is open and running. Images taken in Pulsara are not stored on the device, and Pulsara does not access the device's camera roll.
Microphone
Used for live audio during video calls and for secure in-app audio clips. If dictation is enabled in the device settings, user may use the microphone for voice-to-text transcription into multiple fields such as Chief Complaint / Notes. The microphone can only be accessed while the Pulsara app is open and active.
Critical Alerts
Ensures you receive patient alerts even if your device is silenced or in “Do Not Disturb” mode. Critical Alerts can be disabled at any time in your device’s notification settings.
Location
Allows the app to use device location to find the closest destination facilities, calculate ETAs to destinations, view nearby hospital availability, and join nearby incidents by location. Location is only used when the Pulsara app is in use, not continuously in the background.
To atomically update ETA and set at destination, location permission will need to be set to “Always” to allow the app to use location updates while the app is backgrounded and on the lock screen. When the location permission is set to “Always”, location will only be used when a patient is actively being transported with the Auto-ETA feature.
Notifications
Allows Pulsara to deliver secure patient and team notifications in real time. For more information about the alerting feature of Pulsara, see this knowledge base article: Pulsara Alerts Explained.
PHI and Local Storage
- Pulsara does not store or cache PHI on mobile devices. All data transmissions between the Pulsara MOBILE application and the Pulsara cloud platform occur over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- The Pulsara MOBILE application ensures all connections are made only to verified Pulsara services using certificate pinning to prevent man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks.
